Emily Jaury
LOVEANDFLAIR.COM is an online multi-brand retailer of local fashion and beauty for social, smart and independent women. As of November 2017, we embraced the omni-channel route and opened our first flagship store in Plaza Indonesia.
“My best friend and I were avid online shoppers during our college days and we thought, ‘hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we started one back home when we moved back for good?’ Saying that was easier said than to be done. We didn’t know where and how to get products to sell – so we bought 20 clothing from Taobao.com and shipped them from China to Los Angeles where we were studying at. Shot those clothing in my apartment against a taped-up white fabric on the wall, made a website and launched it online. And that’s how loveandflair.com started!”
Emily said that entering the fashion industry was completely by chance and because of the timing. Emily took up internship positions at financial firms & banks and realized that those career paths are not for Her. Even though those are the jobs my parents wanted for Her, She was neither passionate or great at it so She knew right on that She should do something else. And because of that experience, Emily got the courage to start something different of her own.
Who is your inspiration?
I’m constantly inspired by the people I read about and meet. It’s a huge range from women entrepreneurs that are paving the way as Emily Weiss and Sophia Amoruso to motivational guru Tony Robbins to the amazing designers I work with each day.
Do you think Nail is part of fashion?
Yes – even though it’s not as evident as clothes, it allows you to express your taste and personality in great details . That’s the reason why there’s so many nail arts to choose from – you can choose concepts, mix and match, draw prints, add bling or combine colors. Everyone has their own style and that comes down to the way they do their nails.
What is your favorite Nail color this season?
Either neutral nude or Dark Red. Because I go to work, I tend to keep it simple with full gel polish to last two weeks and choose a classic color so it doesn’t stand out too much.
When do you get your best ideas?
Weirdly, it would be outside of work. I would get my best ideas when I’m alone or travelling and witnessing something (from art, movies, places or something that I read about) that spark an idea that I can incorporate to work.
"Dream big, take (smart, calculated) risks, always do your research and don’t expect things to get easier. As your business grows, I don’t think it gets easier – you just get better at solving the problems. And whenever I feel bad about myself or anything else, I like to go back to this quote"
"For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again."
